The “Contribution to support expenses related to psychological psychotherapy” (so-called Psychologist Bonus) is a measure aimed at supporting people in conditions of anxiety; stress; depression; and psychological fragility.
The contribution was introduced in Italy by the Law n. 15 (February 25, 2022), and continued in subsequent years.

It is aimed at all those people who have had serious psychological repercussions due to the pandemic and the resulting socio-economic crisis; and want to benefit from a psychotherapeutic path.
When applying, it is necessary to meet the following requirements: residence in Italy; annual income with a value not exceeding 50 thousand euros.
The benefit is recognized once in favor of each applicant for up to 50 euros for a psychotherapy session and is paid until the maximum amount assigned is reached, based on income limits, between 500 and 1500 Euros.
Upon acceptance of the application, the beneficiary will be notified of the amount of the contribution and the code to be delivered to the professional where the psychotherapy session is held, chosen from a list of available psychologists divided by region.
The bonus has been very successful in its two years of application and has been used by thousands of people in need of psychological support.

Another practice being implemented in Italy is the ‘primary care psychologist’ or basic psychologist, who can support general practitioners and pediatricians in screening for psychological problems among the young, adults, and elderly.
Pending a national regulation, implemented into law and with adequate funding, the initiative is entrusted to regional regulations, and some Italian regions – including recently Sicily – have started it.
